Safe Streets Action Plan

In 2023, Mayor Mendenhall set a goal to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries on our roadways by 2035. The Safe Streets Action Plan will be a roadmap to reach that goal. The plan will list clear, data-driven steps that Salt Lake City and its partner agencies can take to make our streets safer.

Where did this idea come from?

The community told us safety is a top priority. That’s why this plan builds on the recommendations from the Citywide Transportation Plan and programs like the Livable Streets Program and the Capital Improvement Program.

The goal of the Safe Streets Action Plan is to add layers of protection to help keep people safe, even when they make mistakes while driving, walking, or biking. The plan focuses on improving street design, policies, education, enforcement, and response times to crashes.

The High Injury Network (HIN) is how Salt Lake City tracks the streets with the most crashes. Data is one part of the picture, and your feedback is the other.

Please provide your feedback!

  • What do you recommend that Salt Lake City and its partner agencies do to stop traffic deaths and serious injuries?
  • Where do you feel unsafe driving, walking, biking, or rolling in Salt Lake City?
