Each year, Salt Lake City develops a budget that determines how funding is allocated for services across the city. As the City Council reviews the Mayor’s proposed FY27 (Fiscal Year 2026-2027) budget, we invite you to share your input.
Whether you live, work, attend school, own a business, or spend time in Salt Lake City, your perspective helps shape Council discussions and decisions.

FY27 Budget Adopted
On Tuesday, June 16, the Council adopted Salt Lake City’s $2.1 billion Fiscal Year 2026-27 budget. The budget took effect July 1, 2026, and runs through June 30, 2027.
The adopted budget guides City investments for the year ahead and supports core services such as public safety, infrastructure, housing, transportation, parks, utilities, and neighborhood needs.
Survey Snapshot
Thank you to everyone who participated in the FY27 budget survey. Your responses helped Council Members better understand community priorities, questions, and concerns during this year’s budget discussions. Survey feedback was one of several forms of public input considered during the budget process, along with comments from public hearings and those shared directly with Council Members.

Budget Highlights
The FY27 budget includes the following highlights:
- Housing Stability & Support: Continued support for renters, affordable housing initiatives, and services for people experiencing homelessness, including outreach and shelter coordination.
- Parks & Open Spaces: Funding for maintenance, seasonal staffing, supplies, and capital repairs to care for parks, trees, trails, and open spaces throughout the city.
- Transit: Funding for frequent east-west bus routes and Westside on-demand ride service.
- Emergency Response: Increased staffing and resources to maintain rapid response times for Salt Lake City's growing population.
What Happens Next?
The budget also includes items tied to a proposed increase to the City’s portion of property tax. That increase requires a separate Truth in Taxation process before taking effect, including a public hearing on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026, at 7 p.m.
