We are expanding recycling support across the City with a focus on the west side, multilingual education, and community events that make recycling easier!

On this site, you can explore upcoming recycling events and learn more about what materials are accepted. NOTE: registration for these events is OPTIONAL, you can just show up!

Recycling Education Grant

Salt Lake City is currently administering a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recycling education grant. The purpose of the grant is to divert more recyclable waste from the Salt Lake County Landfill and to reduce recycling contamination. The goals of the grant, which include diverting more recyclable materials from being buried in the landfill, are in line with a Salt Lake City Council resolution calling for the city to achieve Zero Waste by 2040.

How can residents help? We will be hosting a series of free CHaRM (Collection of Hard to Recycle Materials) events, fix-it clinics, “trash talks” and single-item collections of things like e-Waste and Household hazardous waste at various locations around the city!

By participating in these events, you can do your part to extend the life of the City landfill, ultimately reducing the cost of trash service. Keeping certain items out of the landfill also leads to a cleaner, more sustainable Salt Lake City.
