Fairmont Park Improvement Project

Fairmont Park, a 27-acre green space in the Sugar House neighborhood, is getting upgrades to make it safer, more welcoming, and more enjoyable for the community. Planned improvements include sprucing up the park’s north end, adding safety features, creating a new public art piece, and expanding the half-court basketball area into a full court.

The exact improvements have not been decided yet. To guide the project, the City will ask for input from park visitors and nearby residents. Community feedback will help the project team understand what people value most and what changes will make the biggest difference. These ideas will shape the final design and ensure the park continues to meet the needs of the people who use it.

Fairmont Park has received funding for improvements in beautification, safety, basketball courts, and public art. Check out where our funding is coming from!

North End Beautification ($5 million–GO Bond): The north end of Fairmont Park will be revitalized to create an inviting and aesthetically pleasing entrance.

Safety Enhancements ($1.5 million–GO Bond): Ensuring the well-being of all park-goers is a top priority.

Basketball Court Upgrade ($754,000–FY24/25 CIP): Responding to community interest, the current half-court basketball area will be expanded (and potentially relocated) into a full-court facility.

Public Art (Up to $140,000 – FY24/25 CIP Percent-for-Art): The Salt Lake Art Design Board has allocated funding for a public art commission at Fairmont Park, which will be managed by the Salt Lake City Arts Council. This project will be integrated into the park’s overall improvements and extend into McClelland Street.
