E-Scooters in SLC
Shared e-scooters have been on the streets in Salt Lake City since 2018. In 2021, Salt Lake City entered its first contract with Spin and Lime to provide shared e-scooter services.
Salt Lake City is nearing the end of the first contract with these companies, and we seeking feedback about what is working, what isn't working, and how things can improve with shared e-scooters.

Phase report
The e-scooter survey received just over 100 responses. Slightly more than half of the respondents had used a shared e-scooter at least once.
Most respondents said they either have never used shared e-scooters or use them only rarely. This is partly because most respondents have access to a personal vehicle and prefer other ways of getting around.
Whether or not they had used an e-scooter, many respondents shared similar concerns. Common issues included unsafe rider behavior, scooters blocking sidewalks, and negative impacts on pedestrians and people with disabilities. Safety was a major concern overall.
Even so, most respondents agreed that e-scooters could help people connect to transit, reduce car trips, and lower vehicle emissions. Avoiding traffic and parking was one of the main reasons people chose to use shared e-scooters.
To fully realize these benefits, respondents indicated that safety—especially around traffic—needs to improve. Making e-scooters more convenient and affordable could also encourage more people to choose them over other transportation options.
