The civic center area around the Library and City County building is a great space for Arts faires, concerts and other events. I can see little than needs to be done other than possibly closing 200 East on that block and making the street a green space more conducive to event use (but skip the rest of the green belt as it has too many negatives.)

Riding my bike over to pick up a book or even just passing through is great I feel so much safer riding my bike through the library space

Splashing through the stairstepped fountain with my kids on lazy hot days, then taking refuge in the great children's library in the cool basement, and coming back out again for more sun and water.

It is impossible to have a favorite moment when the homeless have taken over. It is not safe for women and kids.

I remember when the Main Library was new, there was so much excitement for the amazing architecture. The waterfall fountain was interesting and fun. Much of the outdoor areas were new and beautiful, but their drawbacks have become apparent. Time to improve it.

I remember going there to walk up that cool ramp thing. Then the police said it was closed because of homeless people hanging out and leaping off it. Yep. Good memories

Back when Pride was more like Living Traditions: affordable, inclusive, local. They way that square would transform was magical, I wish it happened more.

I was enamored with the living traditions festival at city square when I moved to SLC 30 years ago and have been enjoying events there ever since.

My first date with my (to-be) spouse was at Library Square - we didn't have much money, so cheap was king. Just hung out in the square talking, walked up to the roof of the Library - really fund (and free) first date!

All the concerts and festivals I’ve enjoyed at Washington Square — plus the food trucks and local vendors you get to try — make summer in SLC feel alive. I just wish there were more events like this in the winter. Once summer ends, it feels like the streets go quiet, with fewer chances to keep people active and connected.
In Paris, for example, winter still buzzes with charm — cute street markets, live music, and locals supporting vendors in the cold. Bryant Park in New York is another great example, where people gather year-round for skating, markets, and activities. It would be amazing to build something similar here in SLC, so people feel excited to go out, share moments with family and friends, and keep the city’s energy alive through every season.
