I've lived downtown and one block from the civic center for many years. The one complaint I hear frequently from friends and acquaintances who are reluctant to come downtown is the parking and traffic obstacles. (and they fear the homeless, too) Parking is poorly signed and limited and traffic can be a pain on event days due to all the reduced traffic lanes downtown. We live in a large spread-out city and not every lives close enough to bike. Health, age and other physical limitations may limit walking and biking capabilities. And trax for someone who rarely uses it can be a hassle and time consuming considering it does not go to most parts of greater Salt Lake City. Like it or not, it's more practical for some people to use cars. The city leaders should expand their breadth of view in this regard.

@Steven Sayer Disagree 100%, this city (downtown) is 1/3 parking lot or garage, we don't need more parking. Maybe we need clear and consistent signage directing people where there is already parking—because a shocking number of people don't seem to be aware of where there is already parking despite the first sentence in this comment.
When I visit other cities, there is often a network or map of public parking garages with published rates. We don't have anything like this in SLC, as far as I know.

In my favorite memory, I mentioned that I feel safe riding my bike through library space however when it gets to the street behind the library in front of the courthouse, I have very seriously almost been hit by cars multiple times nobody seems to notice the stoplight and it’s pretty dangerous.would love for that to be updated to be safer for pedestrians and bikers

When my family was younger we went to the children's library, walked on the ledge around the reflecting pool and played briefly on the children's sculpture. It was almost enough. We saw exhibits at the Leanardo, have been to festivals. Now with my family older we only visit the library and festivals. We wouldn't choose to come here because we have great city amenities nearer to our house. Consider building amenities for those that live nearby - which is less families and more single adults and partners. Build a fitness loop. Or bring the families down by converting the Leanardo into a child care facility. It's an excessive space but maybe an actual needed amenity - the space could be indoor play areas for hot or cold days.

Not bike-able enough, nor very comfortable with walking. Would love more of a pedestrian and cyclist focus with less car disruption. Would space to be in community and with nature. Would love to see natural water over manufactured water features- uncover our streams and work them back in to the city, please.
More activation- food truck nights and other themes would be great.

I'm able. Just no reason to go there let alone hang out.

That block is terrible for riding your bike. Please make the street bikeable. Also, please call it the Olympic Green Loop. Branding it as such will increase the value of the route.
Lastly, this survey is weird. No question/space for 'other comments'.

@User 409657 Just wanting to second the format here. I like that this style creates a community conversation but it's otherwise difficult. At least include the 'other' section in future!

Using some of the space as a skate park. People use it like one which shows it’s wanted and needed.
Use at least some of the east lawn to house native trees and plants, and add tables/benches, a playground, or other things to make it a more usable and fun space.
At library square providing a strip of trees that aren’t sunken to provide shade and make it a more enjoyable space to spend time.
Close the road between the two and have a weekly/biweekly makers market to support local artists. During holidays open it for a holiday market. Have those markets be free to enter (many of the markets in this location are awesome but they cost money to attend).
Make bike/pedestrian crossing priority between the two blocks. Make a loop or a trail that isn’t the sidewalk but goes between the two blocks as a walking or biking space. This space could be just as well used as liberty square, and this space is just as good as pioneer park for a market. A farmers/makers market could support local small businesses. There is a need in this part of town and this space could be used to fill a hole in this part of the city.

I go to the library to pick up books. I don't lounge around there. First there are too many bums lounging there, second it is noisy downtown. Lunge at home people.
